Revolver
So familiar is the Beatles 1966 album you may think there are billions of copies out there but it has actually only sold a modest five million in the USA and about 1.8 million in the UK. It’s worth remembering that this was where the Beatles were getting progressive. My parents stopped buying their records at this point: “They’ve gone weirdy,” said mother. So this can still be valuable even if it isn’t an obscure test print, or some sort of factory reject.
Beatles records are a whole collectors’ industry, with many catalogue number and sleeve variants, but all you need to know here is this: if you have a first pressing in stereo, you can get £80 or more for it. There are many, many other pressings over the next 15 years but even the 1980 ones are worth £20 or more.

But the real reason to own this album is because it is a slice of genius. From Taxman to Tomorrow Never Knows the breadth of music is just astonishing.
